Does Tiny Eden use generative AI?
The developers say none of the content you see or interact with in the game is AI generated. Their account on Steam is that placeholder AI images were used while the game was an earlier project called City Garden Harvest, that those were replaced with human-made assets, and that one or two old copies were later found left in project folders, not active in the game.

The question players asked
Two days after launch, a player asked on Steam whether generative AI had been used anywhere in the game, code included, saying the art style had made them wary. Other players in the thread pointed to the game's bugs and to the tone of an in-game email.
Some held off buying until the developers answered. One player reported that on Discord the developers had mentioned AI placeholders, some of them accidentally left in, and asked them to make a public statement on Steam.
What the developers said
Digital Vortex Entertainment replied on 12 September. They wrote that the game began as City Garden Harvest, built by a tiny team, and that placeholder AI content was used at that stage to show what the game was meant to be, in slideshows and on loading screens.
They added that the game has since been redesigned, rebranded and, by their count, remade with a new direction at least twice, and that everything you see or interact with is human made.
The leftover files
The same reply explains the leftovers players had heard about. The project had built up folders within folders over a long development, and while cleaning them up the team missed some; one or two copies of the old placeholder images stayed inside.
Their point is that those files are not used by the game. Nothing in the reply says whether they have since been deleted.
How players took it
The player who asked thanked the developers, and said they would rather wait for a developer answer on Steam than join a Discord server to check. Another said learning the AI material had been replaced removed one of the biggest reasons they had waited to buy.
Not everyone waited. One player in the thread wrote that Steam had already refunded their purchase, and another said they hoped the team would not use AI in future projects.
What the store page shows
When the Tiny Eden store page was checked on 15 September it carried no AI generated content disclosure section. That is consistent with the developers' statement that no content players interact with is AI generated.
The reply did not address the original question about code; it spoke to content, assets and images. For where the developers post and answer questions, see the official Discord and Steam channels.
The store listing itself, including the features it lists, is on the Steam page.
Not confirmed yet
- Whether the leftover placeholder files have been removed in a later patch is not stated.
- The developers' reply does not say whether AI tools were used for code.
