Tiny Eden: the splice button will not press
Players report that the Splice button in the Gene Lab stays greyed out for some plants, peas above all, even when the plasmid count is enough. One player says you have to complete a later quest before you can splice a plant more than twice, and another advises splicing other plants to reach the 10 plasmids the Transmission Vector quest asks for. The developers asked which plants fail and have not replied further.

- 5 plantsone player named where the button stays grey
- $199the shop price of a plasmid, per the developers
- 10plasmids the Transmission Vector quest asks you to use
- Twicehow often you can splice, until a later quest, per one player
What players are seeing
The first report is short: one player could not press Splice even with the 2 plasmids needed. A second said some plants splice and some do not, and the developers asked for the names of the ones that fail.
The list one player gave was thyme, chamomile, cornflower, parsley and peas. Peas came up again and again: a player with 108 of the 100 needed still could not splice, and the player who gave that list wrote on 19 September that peas and other ready plants still had an inactive button with enough plasmids.
The same report came again on 21 September, after Update #9: a player with peas at 110 of the 100 needed on the lab's second tab, and 3 plasmids against the 2 the button asks for, still had a disabled button and no idea why. Nobody had answered by that night.
Why it might be greyed out
Nothing official explains it yet, but a few theories are worth knowing. A player who could not evolve their peas asked in a separate thread and got two answers: one player believes you have to collect 100 peas to reach the next rarity level, and another says you need to complete a quest later in order to splice more than twice.
A third player suspects the fault is in how plants of different rarity are counted, because the bar reads 100/100 while a mix of white and green plants seems to count for less. That is a guess from one player, and the player with the list of grey plants said their peas had been upgraded to 300 and they were still stuck on the 100 upgrade.
Answers players gave
- One player believes you must collect 100 peas to reach the next rarity level
- Complete a quest later in order to splice more than twice
- The bar can read 100/100 and still not count mixed-rarity plants
What is confirmed
- The developers asked which plants fail
- No patch note from Update #3 to Update #9 names the splice button
- Update #9 fixed bugged gene modifiers in the Gene Lab
What to try, in order
None of these fixes is official. They are what players suggested, ordered from the cheapest to the most effort.
Step 1: Check you really have the plasmids
Plasmids are sold in the Garden tab of the shop, on the fourth row, and the developers say you need Code Green reputation level 1 and $199 per plasmid.
Step 2: Splice a different plant first
One player says you do not have to keep splicing peas past the first time, and that splicing other plants gets you to 10 plasmids.
Step 3: Do not count on more than two splices per plant yet
One player says a later quest is needed to splice more than twice. They did not name the quest.
Step 4: Report it from the game
One player says to press Esc and choose Report a bug. Since Update #8 a bug report includes a snapshot of your save from the moment the problem happened.
The ten plasmids quest
The Transmission Vector step is where most players meet the splice problem. A player who had spliced peas twice was left with 2 plasmids and a quest asking for 10, and the developers explained the split: you get 5 from the Code Green quest, but you have to buy the other 5 first.
There is one more catch. A player says that upgrading a plant by rarity, from uncommon to rare in their strawberry example, did not count those plasmids as used, so they needed 13 plasmids to finish. A separate quest, upgrading one fruiting plant to level 5, also stalled for a player whose peas had six traits and read 1010/1500, while another finished it with beans.
How this fits with the other lab pages
The splice button sits in the middle of several pages that already exist. Where plasmids are sold and what they cost is on the plasmids page, the pea quest is on mutated peas, and the quality-based step that follows is on the Transmission Vector page.
Update #6 lists Transmission Vector among the quests whose progression conditions were fixed, so a save that stalled before 14 September may move on after updating.
The Database and its books are on the database books page, and the profit-or-research choice at harvest that feeds the lab is on the breeding page.
Update #10 on 21 September rebalanced genes and added descriptions for the new gene types, and made minor improvements to the Genetics and Evolution screens. The notes do not mention the Splice button, so whether the change touches the greyed-out case is not confirmed.
Not confirmed yet
- Which quest, if any, allows more than two splices is not documented.
- Why the button stays inactive for some plants is not explained.
- Whether Update #9's gene modifier fix or Update #10's gene rebalance changes the button is not stated.
Frequently asked
- Why is the splice button greyed out in Tiny Eden?
- Players report it on peas and some herbs even with enough plasmids. The developers asked which plants fail and have not published a fix.
- How many times can I splice a plant?
- One player says twice, until you complete a later quest. It is not confirmed by the developers.
- Where do I buy plasmids?
- In the shop's Garden tab, on the fourth row. The developers say you need Code Green reputation level 1, and the price is $199.
- How do I report the splice bug?
- Press Esc and choose Report a bug, one player says. Bug reports include a snapshot of your save since Update #8.
