Tiny Eden

Tiny Eden: the Biosphere quest and its hunters

Hunters are friendly bugs that prey on the pests eating your plants, the developers explained, and the Biosphere step asks for at least 10 of them in the 4th room. Players who did everything they could still saw no progress, and on 14 September the developers fixed an issue that could stop the quest; Update #6 also lists a fix for the Hunters progression condition.

What the step is asking for

The Biosphere quest brings in pests, the bugs and creatures that eat your plants, and the hunters that feed on them. The developers spelled this out in a spoilered reply, because the quest text alone does not.

The step reads have at least 10 hunters in the 4th room. One player worked out from earlier hints that it ties to companion planting, upgraded a Calendula until its info panel showed the bug and hunter trait icon, and put those pots in the 4th room.

Why nothing happened

That player saw no progress at all, and others in the thread were stuck at the same point. An earlier step had the same shape: players upgraded Calendula to level 3, got the special mutation, and the quest still did not mark it done.

Both look like quest problems rather than player mistakes. On 14 September the developers wrote that a Biosphere quest fix had gone out that morning, in a thread where players were stuck on orders they could not cancel, and a player there confirmed their yellow flower level 3 quest then updated.

What the patches changed

Biosphere appears in two patches in three days. If your save stalled before 14 September, update and load it again before you start the step over; Update #6 also fixed quests not being restored correctly after loading a save.

What finishing Biosphere unlocks

The quest matters beyond its own reward. On 17 September a developer told a player stuck on the Industries of Roofs quest to finish Biosphere first, because it lets you upgrade the composter and make super compost. That reply is the closest thing to an official explanation of the loop where calendula needs super compost and the quest needs calendula.

The composter side is covered on the super compost page, and the calendula seeds themselves on the calendula page.

Automate 2 stations on the roof

Another objective raised in the same thread confuses people differently. A player who set up a greenhouse with several automated planters found they did not count, and another asked whether it meant two drone stations or two planters.

A player reading the developers' reply summed it up as neither. The developers tie the water collectors and solar panels to this questline, to collect water and supply power, and at the time they said the questline looked bugged. One player built six solar arrays and three rain catchers and saw no progress. Update #6 then lists a fix for the rooftop automation quests not starting.

Update #7 added something relevant: Drone Care can now be enabled for composters and the biopolymer press. One player replied on 16 September that the two stations to automate are two composters set up with drones. That is one player's reading, and the developers' reply named the water collector and solar panels.

Automation: Roof and the vents

Further on, players stuck on Automation: Roof describe a wall at the ventilation pipe logistics, with no instruction on what to do next. The developers said they were checking that quest for a bug, and a player who had been waiting on the vents wrote the next day that they had a pallet to work on. Update #6 lists Duct Logistics among its fixed progression conditions; whether that is the vent step is not stated.

One blocker there is not a bug. A player could not plant cabbage for the vents, and the developers answered that cabbage goes in the Castor or the Hamal planter; which planter each crop needs covers the rest. Drones on the roof have their own quirks, on the drones page.

The rooftop bees count is separate from bees in the room

Update #6 lists Bees among the quests whose progression conditions were fixed, and one bees step still confused a player on 19 September. Their quest asked them to reach the maximum number of rooftop bees, which it showed as 100, while they had 108 and the quest did not move.

A developer answered on 21 September that the rooftop and the room are counted separately, so bees kept in a room do not count toward this quest. The reply asks whether the 108 are on the rooftop; the player had not answered when this was written.

Not confirmed yet

  • How to attract hunters in numbers is not documented.
  • Whether Duct Logistics is the vent step players describe is not stated.
  • Whether the fixes repair a save that was already stuck, rather than only new progress, is not stated.
