Tiny Eden: when a heater does nothing

It was a bug, and a patch fixed it

On 8 September a player reported that a heater on the balcony did not warm the corners or the wall shelves, and another said heaters and grow lights were not working at all. The developers confirmed it in that thread and pointed to a temporary workaround: images a player shared on the official Discord of specific floor tiles where heaters did work.

Update #3 followed on 10 September and describes the cause in its own words; Update #4 added another temperature zone fix the day after.

Update #10 on 21 September came back to the same system. It fixed temperature-zone boundaries around several walls in the house, and collision, temperature-zone boundaries, rugs and surfaces in the fifth room, including in existing saves. The notes do not say whether the cold strip along the living-room window is one of them.

You already have one heater

Before buying anything, look in the main room. The apartment comes with a radiator you can switch on and off, and several players did not know it was there.

One player notes it is on by default. That helps in winter and works against you in summer, when one player saw the room far hotter than the balcony, so turn it off in the warm months and back on when it gets cold.

How much a heater moves a room

One player measured it on a day when it was -1.9° outside, and posted the numbers on 8 September. Their conclusion was that a space heater adds a flat 10° to the room it is in, and that heaters stack. They also found the radiator adds 15°, and that closing a balcony window raises the baseline.

These readings were taken before Update #3 changed how temperature zones overlap, so treat them as a guide to scale rather than exact values in a current save.

The strip beside the living-room window

Several players found that the row of floor directly along the wall between the first balcony and the living room keeps the outdoor temperature, and heaters do not change it. One measured a single tile at 1.1° while the rest of the balcony sat at 16°; another saw -4° there with three heaters running.

The developers said they were looking into it. The zone fixes in Updates #3 and #4 may or may not cover it; the notes do not say. Until you have checked your own balcony, keep temperature-sensitive pots off that row.

Planter add-on heaters are a separate item

The shop also sells a heater add-on that sits inside a planter rather than warming a room. Players agree it only fits the larger square planters, but disagree on the smallest size: one says it is not designed for the first three planter types, another calls it a 4x4 planter, and a third uses one in 2x2 Altair pots.

That third player found a catch. The add-on kept cornflowers warm but not a single tomato in the same kind of pot. For single-plant crops, a room heater or moving the pot is the safer route.

Bought a heater and it never arrived

Heaters and fans are easy to miss in the shop. Players report they only show up under the All category or by typing heater into the search bar, and put the room heater at about $25.

If nothing turned up at the parcel terminal, check your balance at the time: the developers described a purchase bug where a buy with too little money could look successful when it was not. A separate case is still open: one player who did have enough money never received a fan, and the developers could not reproduce it. That player also had a second paint roller stuck in the postbox at the time.
